Tasting- Big Six Whiskey Bourbon Barrel Red Wine Blend

Name: Big Six Whiskey Bourbon Barrel Red Wine Blend
Variety: Red Blend (I was unable to find online or on the bottle what variety this wine was exactly)
Region: King City
Country: California, USA
Year: 2015
Price: $15

Winery Review: I was unable to find any professional reviews, but I found the following from their website:

CONCENTRATED . VANILLA . CARAMEL FULL-BODIED California - THE NEWEST WAY TO EXPERIENCE WINE! Bourbon barrel aged for three months, which adds flavors of vanilla, caramel and oak to a mouthful of cherries, blackberries and hints of spice. Not for the faint of heart - This red blend packs in a ton a flavor!

My review: When I smelled this wine, I smelled aromas of mushrooms, a little spice, and possibly cherries. I felt like the mushroom smell was stronger than the other two smells though. Upon tasting this wine I realized I had never tried any wine similar to this. I am unsure what flavor it was, but it was a very different flavor than usual, possibly a chocolate flavor. I believe that the flavor was different since this wine is a whiskey bourbon barrel wine, meaning that it was aged in a barrel that had previously aged whiskey. To me, this concept was interesting and something I had never heard of before. The wine was smooth and had a little spice to it. I liked it a lot at first. After my boyfriend tried it, he did not like it and began saying it tasted like cough syrup. As I kept drinking the wine, I was able to taste the cough syrupy flavor that my boyfriend was talking about, and did not enjoy the wine as much, but still liked it. I was unable to taste the vanilla, caramel, oak, or blackberry flavors that was described for this wine, but did smell the cherries and spice.

I did not try this wine with any food.
