Tasting- Honig Sauvignon Blanc

Image
Name:  Honig 2013 Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley) Variety: 95% Sauvignon Blanc, 4% Semillon, 1% Muscat Region: Napa Valley, Napa, California Country:  USA Year:  2013 Price:  $9/glass (price I bought for at restaurant), $17 online Winery Review:  Flowery and electric in high-toned grapefruit and peach, this is a crisp, clean white from a consistent producer. Medium-bodied, it holds small percentages of Sémillon and Muscat. The finely hewed texture benefits from 10% of the wine having been aged in neutral oak. V.B. (9/1/2014) -89 My review: Amazing! I thought this wine was very smooth to drink. The flavor was very refreshing. When I swirled this wine it tasted a little stronger, but hardly and was still delicious. I could taste the peach in this wine as mentioned in the review above, but I did not taste the grapefruit and am unsure what crisp means still. I loved this wine and would 100% recommend and drink it again. This time I actually looked up what t...

Tasting- Matchbook Syrah

Name:  Matchbook Dunnigan Hills Syrah 2012 Variety: 91% Syrah, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon Region: Dunnigan Hills, Central Valley, California Country: USA Year: 2012 Price: $9/glass or $35/bottle at restaurant, $16 online Winery Review:  This medium-bodied wine shows an array of smoky, meaty aromas, along with ripe plum and tart blackberry flavors. Not at all overripe, but made with some restraint, it allows savory flavors like tarragon and anise to peek through. The blend includes 9% Cabernet Sauvignon. (8/1/2015)- 89 My review: I really liked this wine! When I swirled it I could taste a stronger flavor, so I preferred not swirling before drinking. I thought I could taste a little bit of a fruity flavor, but did not taste any smoky or meaty aroma as mentioned above. I would definitely buy this wine again. When I tried this wine I paired it with spinach and artichoke dip. Yuck! When pairing with this, the flavor was much stronger and more bitter. I think this wine would go...

Introduction Wine Blog

Hi! My name is Penelope Parker and I am in my last semester at OU. I am a Biochemistry major and plan to go to medical school. I love wine and have quite a bit of experience trying different types of wines. While I was growing up, my family would drink wine with dinner often so I tried wines that way. I have continued to drink wine with dinner at least once a week because I like trying to pair wines with my food and trying new wines. I have also visited a winery in Chile named Santa Marta, which taught me a lot more about how wine is created. Aside from trying wines at dinner and visiting Santa Marta winery, I do not have much other experience with wine. So far, I am not sure what type of wines I like. I had thought moscato was the only type of wine that I liked until this past semester. I tried a chardonnay- which I had thought previously that was one of my least favorite types of wine- with my grandparents and really enjoyed it. Also, in Chile I tried multiple Sauvignon Blanc's...
