Tasting- Matchbook Syrah

Name: Matchbook Dunnigan Hills Syrah 2012
Variety: 91% Syrah, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon
Region: Dunnigan Hills, Central Valley, California
Country: USA
Year: 2012
Price: $9/glass or $35/bottle at restaurant, $16 online

Winery Review: This medium-bodied wine shows an array of smoky, meaty aromas, along with ripe plum and tart blackberry flavors. Not at all overripe, but made with some restraint, it allows savory flavors like tarragon and anise to peek through. The blend includes 9% Cabernet Sauvignon. (8/1/2015)- 89

My review: I really liked this wine! When I swirled it I could taste a stronger flavor, so I preferred not swirling before drinking. I thought I could taste a little bit of a fruity flavor, but did not taste any smoky or meaty aroma as mentioned above. I would definitely buy this wine again.
When I tried this wine I paired it with spinach and artichoke dip. Yuck! When pairing with this, the flavor was much stronger and more bitter. I think this wine would go better with steak or ribs.
